Apparently I have over 500 unread friends entries. I must try to keep up with this place on a daily basis, or it just gets silly...

People may receive comments from me on antique posts today :)

I just was told to take a peek at your "ouch"
icon... I just broke my right humerus... 1 titanium rod, 4 pins and wire :/ it broke in 4 places and now I have nerve palsey to the radial nerve :/ How did your leg heal? Do you have implants? Still?

sorry had to ask :)

Ouch. Nerve damage is a shit - I was pretty lucky to get away without any loss of movement function in the nerves I think. I have a lot of 'dead areas' where I can't feel the skin, but they're all between the knee and ankle, none of them are on my foot which might affect balance I guess. A guy who was in hospital at the same time as me for a bike accident had some damage to his nerves that means he can't lift his foot properly any more, only press down with it... that must be really annoying.

I have two plates and fourteen screws in my shinbone.. there are better pics of the original scans the 'ouch' icon comes from linked on the right of my journal. A friend took one of the repaired x-ray, but the link seems to have stopped working, I might have to get a copy from him and host it myself.

I'm told that they won't consider the question of whether or not to remove the fixings until at least two years after I achieve full bone density, which isn't expected for at least a year after the accident... so I've got maybe 2 and a half years before they'll think about it. It's annoying, because several of the screws protrude quite badly (I'm pretty skinny), and they feel bruised a lot of the time. Still, if they're necessary to keep my knee in one piece, I guess I want them there!

Wow! your x-ray is more impressive then mine ;) well mine looks like a floating arm... as the humerus is missing. You also have more impressive scars ;) I have a long scar on my arm and a few rounder scars where they inserted the rod. I have my rod and pins for life as the operation to take them out is a bad one I am told. :/

I have the same nerve damage your roomate in the hospital had... I can only press down on my poor hand... the dr said it was sleeping nerves... so lets hope that it is. :)

thank-you for replying to me :)
