Cool...

The girl who sits next to me at work turned up this morning with fluorescent pink spiked hair. I guess I'm okay to dye mine purple when I next get bored then :)

I might get my nose pierced again too... I quite liked the way it looked with a small stud in it when I had it pierced a few years back. I didn't much enjoy getting it pierced (yes, I am a wuss), but it wasn't so bad that I wouldn't do it again. Unlike my navel piercing. Which seems to be growing out, damn it.

In other news, I was sucked in by the excessive gravitional field of a comic shop yesterday... I was just walking past, and suddenly my I found myself at the till and my wallet was much lighter. I've acquired the first couple of graphic novels in the Transmetropolitan series, and the first one has made me laugh out loud a few times already. I can see me accumulating the rest of those at a higher speed than is fiscally sensible.

I have a guest from the US staying at my place this week. I'm pleased to say that she voted before she left the country, for Kerry of course :) A few mailing lists I'm on have been discussing the US election recently, and several people have observed that although they have no interest in UK politics, they're actually quite concerned about who wins in the states. Personally I can never quite understand people who aren't interested in politics, but it is interesting that they realise how important the US election could be to their lives, even when they fail to realise how important our own elections might be.

Forgot to mention that I went along to Decadence on Saturday night at their new venue. The music varied between 'okay' and 'not bad', without ever really reaching 'good' or 'objectionable' (YMMV of course - roughly speaking, if you like Poison then you'll probably like a fair amount of what they play). This kind of music policy is okay by me for a night out with friends, as at least you can happily listen to everything that gets played. I very definitely will not be going back however, as the vast majority of the people there were smoking. Combined with the low ceilings, this single fact made it one of the most unpleasant places I've been in quite a while.

That reminds me, I read somewhere that the UK is about to put laws in place banning smoking in any place (including pubs) that serve food. I'm not sure on what timescale this is going to happen though. Obviously this wouldn't help in this particular case, as it didn't look like the place sold food anyway, but it's nice to know for general eating out purposes... I'm fed up with my meal being ruined by someone else's post-meal cigarette.

(I once knew a woman who smoked while she was eating. This struck me as a lot less inconsiderate to those at the next table than people who smoke after they've finished eating, but while the other table is still tucking in. Not that I'd want to sit next to either of them, but at least I can understand why she wouldn't think she was a problem to those around her.)
