Forgot to mention that I went along to Decadence on Saturday night at their new venue. The music varied between 'okay' and 'not bad', without ever really reaching 'good' or 'objectionable' (YMMV of course - roughly speaking, if you like Poison then you'll probably like a fair amount of what they play). This kind of music policy is okay by me for a night out with friends, as at least you can happily listen to everything that gets played. I very definitely will not be going back however, as the vast majority of the people there were smoking. Combined with the low ceilings, this single fact made it one of the most unpleasant places I've been in quite a while.

That reminds me, I read somewhere that the UK is about to put laws in place banning smoking in any place (including pubs) that serve food. I'm not sure on what timescale this is going to happen though. Obviously this wouldn't help in this particular case, as it didn't look like the place sold food anyway, but it's nice to know for general eating out purposes... I'm fed up with my meal being ruined by someone else's post-meal cigarette.

(I once knew a woman who smoked while she was eating. This struck me as a lot less inconsiderate to those at the next table than people who smoke after they've finished eating, but while the other table is still tucking in. Not that I'd want to sit next to either of them, but at least I can understand why she wouldn't think she was a problem to those around her.)

Ireland banned smoking in workplaces, which seems a pretty cunning/devious ploy (depending on your POV):

I think some UK towns (?Manchester) are thinking of trialing this too...

The major complaints seem to be that instead of smelling of fag smoke, pubs smell of stale beer and err old men.

If the club is operating under a section 77 license, which, if it's a night club proper it will be, then within their terms of licence is the provision that they MUST offer SUBSTANTIAL heated food, other than prepackaged bar snacks, within one hour of opening and continue to do so untill at least one hour prior to closing. no if's no but' S.

The law does change in Feb, but given the way it changes I doubt anyone would get off having to serve food in a club, I have recently researched this, as it's causing me a big headache with a plan that the originator of this thread is well aware of.

( In their wisdom, local councilors and Magistarait beleive that when intoxicated, the sensible night club goer will find a quiet corner and purchase a meal, to absorb the alcohol already consumed )..Yup guys, they really think like that...

Banning Smoking..
Having read this subject, in depth, and with interest in the Night club trade papers, it's not the "P.C " move, it may perceived to be, the reason that companies, hand in hand with government are considereing the ban, is because a barmaid / waitress, successfully sued her American employer, for contracting cancer, she claimed it was through passive smoking whilst at work in the bar.

The court found, that, as is the same in the uk, the Employer has a duty to offer a safe and clean work place, in law, an atmosphere contaminated with cancer enducing particles, is neither safe, nor clean, the prrof as to wether the passive smoking caused her cancer, was deemed irrelevant, because it was already proven that the employer was not living up to his/her legal duty.

As the UK follows the letiguous path of good ole Uncle Sam, it is inevitable that at some point, some unfortunate non smoking cancer victim will make the same claim within our judicial process....
