*mutter grumble*
Jul. 29th, 2011 03:07 pmSo after the 'woo yay' of my last post, I went to Rye for a couple of days where my diet is a bit less careful and I don't go to the gym. Came home, I'd gained more than 2kg (and over 1% of body-fat). Annoyingly, a few days later I'm still carrying more than half of that extra weight and fat, so it wasn't just a temporary glitch of water retention or whatever.
I'm a little worried about this because my plan for August/September is to spend a lot of time in Rye. I've got a lot of work to do with Helen over the next month or two, so it makes sense to be in the same place, for faster co-working. I don't really want to put all my weight back on while I'm there though! I'm going to look into short-term gym membership at Rye's leisure centre - their gym is a bit shit, but it has cross-trainers which I guess is the main thing I need to keep doing - but I'm worried about how much that might cost, my finances are already screwed right now.
In summary, meh.
Edited to add: Just remembered the other thing I was sulking about :) So I went to a physio recently to get my knee looked at. While I was there, I was mentioning going to the gym etc and mentioned that my body fat when I started was 23%. Before I could say that I'd now got it down to 21% (at that time) she chipped in with her professional opinion that it was probably a fair bit more than 23%. Bah. She's probably right though - those inductance scales my flatmate owns are the ones that measure through the feet only, so they're basically only measuring the composition of my legs (electric signal goes up one leg, across hips, down other leg) - and my legs are in considerably better shape than my midriff. Ho hum. On the bright side this also means they won't have picked up any of the muscle-gain in my arms and shoulders, so maybe I'm further ahead there than I thought. Not sure if there's anywhere I can get a more accurate check of my body-fat and muscle percentages done for free... I've booked a 'general health check-up' at my GP but not sure if it'll include that, I'll ask when I'm there.
Second edit: Turns out the Rye leisure centre is currently running a summer promotion - 4 week unlimited access membership for £38. That's not too bad, I guess I'll buy one of those.

Date: 2011-07-29 09:15 pm (UTC)Sit-ups are kind of crunchy; I hear they're not great for you anyway, and the damage to my hip probably makes them even less so. Press-ups I have been getting better at - I can manage a whole ten now! On a good day anyway. :)
I don't think I'm going to burn 500+ calories in an hour without the help of a cross-trainer, really. And the weights and stuff in a gym would be handy for keeping up my other training, although that's probably less important overall.
The food in Rye is indeed frequently tasty. Fortunately I don't drink, or I think this would already be a very lost cause! :)
