Professional paid legal advice sought...

Ex-employer has sent me a contract to sign regarding the severance payment I will receive from them. I need (as one of its conditions, not to mention out of general common sense) to get it very seriously looked at by a lawyer. They are offering to pay up to £200 of the cost of hiring said lawyer. Does anybody have any recommendations of good lawyers/companies/whatever? (or ones to avoid)

My firm has a good employment department, some of whom operate out of the London office. It's DMH Stallard, and the London office number is 0207 423 1000. I don't know if they offer a discounted rate if you were referred by staff, but you can say I referred you and see if that helps any.

Hackney Community Law Centre - where lilithmagna works? I fed 'em some work when I was a union rep, they can look through confidentiality agreements and advise, and it means they get the cash, not a fat cat city law firm or whatever. Given the price offered for legal services, it sounds like that's basically what you're looking at. You basically need a lawyer to look through and tell you whether they try to get you to sign away e.g. rights to sue for disability discrimination, and other things that would make the contract illegal.

PS I won't be offended if you ignore this suggestion!
