Public service announcement for anyone who might be visiting me at home... I've dismantled the speakerphone system at my flat, so if you want to get let in to the block, you'll need to phone me on my mobile or home phone, and then wait for me to come and open the door by hand.

All I actually did to it was disconnect one of the wires for the doorbell speaker inside the unit, as the number of aggravating fucking morons ringing my doorbell in the hope of being let into the block of flats has taken a sharp increase over the last week or two, and it was really starting to annoy me. The bloody thing sounds like a (very loud) alarm clock, and it doesn't shut up until you (get out of bed and) go and flick the on/off switch a few times. Something which I had to do at 05:13 this morning, having only got to sleep at gone 3am. Not happy.

You might ask why I don't just leave it switched off, to which I will reply "I'd love to, but it's not actually possible". No matter which position you leave the on/off switch in, the next person to ring the doorbell will cause it to start up again. Which is why I had to get up at 05:15 and 05:16 as well. Hence the dismantling.

Oh, and of course, being high-quality council-maintained electronic equipment, disconnecting a single speaker wire has also disabled the door-opening feature, for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Would it be possible to reconnect the wire with a switch inserted, so that you can exert control over when the annoying morons actually *can* annoy you?

Maybe the door-opening feature needs to hear the ring signal in order to work? :P
