Babies... weird idea.

My ex girlfriend of some 5 years ago and her husband are due to become parents tomorrow. I'm finding it very odd how interested I am in this whole process. She and I split up fairly amicably, but didn't really stay in touch to the extent I would have liked - perhaps the end of a five year monogamous relationship doesn't leave room in her mind for immediately settling into an easy 'just friends' kind of relationship, although I would have been happy to do so. I was quite upset when she didn't invite me to her wedding...
But why on earth am I so fascinated in the fact that she's about to have a kid? I don't even want kids (one of the basic reasons we're not a couple still was her encroaching maturity and my increasing immaturity :) ). I presume this is one of those things a GCSE psychology student will be able to explain to me, so, someone please explain, because I'm quite interested in this quirky little thought process - it's so much more entertaining than most of my other quirky thought processes of late! :)
Update: in case anyone is interested, she's had the baby now, and mother and son are both fine. I haven't been to see them yet as there's a quarantine on MK hospital at present, some nasty bacterial infection thing that's really not good if you're a couple of days old... [2002-10-24]
