There are robot vacuum cleaners and I didn't know about them! How was this allowed to happen?

I want a Roomba!

Oh - I didn't know you'd not heard of them...

I'm guessing this is on your Birthday/Xmas list now? ;-)

Who wouldnt'?
and given the current exchange rate (fuckers) the cheaper end of the range come in at well under the more expensive normal vacuums. If I wasn't redundant I'd probably get one :)

Someone was talking about these at a party I was at the other week (I know, rock-and-roll) - apparently they aren't that clever, they just go in concentric circles until they think they've done everything, but it's perfectly possible to just hoover one corner with some surprising topology.

State of the art in AI exaggerated, who'd have thought it? :)

You can get lawn mowers like this too.... not much use in a flat though :)
They are solar powered come out of their little hut and cut the grass when they are charged and when the charge starts to drop they make their way beack to the docking station, the really clever ones can remember which bits of the lawn they cut last time before running out of charge, and also know how much charge it will take them to get back to the base point...Wicked...however as lawn movers, they are crap, but very fun to watch...

Because, sweetheart, you'd actually have to have some clear floor space for them to work ;p

we looked into those a few years ago, but apart from the need to have 2 hoovers (one robot and one to do stairs/corners etc) feedback from the sites implied they wouldn't cope with our small, cluttered house with wires all over the floor... - have they got any better? One day I aspire to have one!!! :)
