General updatingness
Apr. 11th, 2004 01:48 pmThings that have happened recently...
I didn't get the job at BUPA, although I didn't definitely not get it either. They're going to do another round of interviews before they make a choice, as they didn't feel any of the original four shortlisted were exactly right for the position... but they did prefer one of us and are keeping that as a fallback option. No idea if that's me or not.
That makes two 'not quite a no, but definitely not a yes' answers from jobs now. Odd. Still, I should be glad that at least I'm getting interviews, I guess... the job market is not bulging with opportunities for Perl geeks just now. I keep thinking I should start learning Java, which seems to feature alongside Perl in quite a lot of ads, but they're mostly for financial sector and require prior experience anyway.
I'm walking with a cane now... well, a cane and a lorryload of painkillers. It's considerably slower and more painful than life on crutches, but it should push the recovery process along the next stage or two. My ankle has started to respond to physio, so I'm hopeful that I won't require any more surgery there, which is a relief. I may be arranging some private physio a couple of times a week, if the other side are willing to pay for it, which would improve my odds of a full recovery considerably (and therefore reduce the amount of money they have to pay out in the end).
The cane also has the advantage of looking a lot prettier than crutches, and hence the disadvantage of matching my usual style/image closely enough that people apparently assume it's an affectation and don't give me as much consideration as they did when I was hobbling around on crutches. Oh well...
My lawyer came to visit me and interviewed me, then compiled a statement which I need to read through and sign. Or actually, which I plan to entirely re-write and then send back for her approval... it's a bit patchy at present, it reads like something drafted up from notes taken in an interview, rather than a coherent and linear statement of facts. As this could well be my only input into the court process, I'd like it to sound as good as I can get it.
I suppose I should get on with that today really, as I'm sure she's not expecting a complete re-write back and that will require her to read it through again. *toddles off to warm up a word processor*

Tart.
Changing the subject, well actually not so much of a change.....
Do you have a skid-lid and gloves I could borrow for a bikey-type jaunt with a pal? I'll take good care of them!
