Progress...
Mar. 18th, 2004 06:05 pmWell, I'm officially a toddler. I guess it's sort of funny, really.
I'm walking (or limping/lurching) around my house without my crutches pretty much all the time now, but I still take them with me when I go out, and use them for balance and a tiny bit of support. I seem to be able to walk up ramps with less effort than walking on the straight, presumably because of the problems with flexing my ankle.
Walking doesn't hurt too much around the fracture area any more, just a dull ache mostly, with occasional stabs if I lean on it a bit too fast - although the more I try to correct from lurching to walking properly, the more it hurts - I think that's muscular. My ankle continues to be very painful though, feels bruised all the time - I'm back to taking fairly serious painkillers once or twice a day now. Hopefully now that the leg is in almost full use, the muscles will start to stretch back out and the tendons will stop taking such a beating eventually :-\
Today while I waited for a taxi I was experimenting with trying to stand all my weight onto the bad leg. After a few false starts, I managed it enough to establish that the muscles have actually wasted to the point where I can't hold my own body weight up for more than a few seconds. Pretty weird concept.
Finances continue to be horribly desperate, although the other side is apparently going to send me another £3000. Sadly the problems are now at a stage where this doesn't even give me any money to play with / live on, it just gets me out of the shit I'm currently in with being over overdraft limits and in arrears on credit card payments. Meh. My usual policy of not worrying about my finances any more than I absolutely have to is still in force.... however, the month you are forced to cancel your mortgage direct debit is the month when you absolutely have to worry quite a lot. I don't see what more I can do really though, so I'll carry on doing my best to juggle it all until either a new income helps me to start getting rid of some of the problems, or the whole lot crashes down around my ears.
Speaking of juggling, I think I might take up devil sticks next... I saw a guy doing really slow control-based stuff with them a few weeks back, and that appealed to me much more than the flash sort of spinning you normally see done with them - sort of like the difference between juggling and contact juggling, the stuff he was doing was all about slow, smooth, controlled play. Looked good. Maybe I should run away and join the circus :)
