(09:30:32) Denny: How about a nice game of Global Thermonuclear War?
(09:31:03) 217616147: wot?

Ah well, it amused me.

The only way to win is to utterly crush your opponent with the overwhelming destructive force of a thousand hydrogen warheads.
Or maybe that's just me ...

My favourate is: "Dave? I think there's something wrong Dave..." (also 2001) and "I just thought you should know, I'm feeling very depressed" (possibly slightly misquoted, but meant to be the line from Marvin the Paranoid Android in HHGTHG)

Or to really freak people out: "Presssiousss, my presssiousss" (imagine gollum hand movements accompaning this).

Occassionally I also like to reply to someone trying to do Yoda, or just getting a sentance back to front: "Like to Yodaspeak you do, hmmmm?" (complete with a reasonable impression of Yoda's voice).

I thought it was funny, but it was evident he didn't get it. Oh the joy of realising MAD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutually_assured_destruction) is but a button press (or successful hack) away...

I think I once responded to a random message by quote large tracts of the french knights from Monty Python and the Holy Grail at someone.

He didn't get it, either... :(

Bravo.

geek quotes from that period can be thoroughly baffling to those not old enough. When I adminned it was in a department of 30somethings, we were all of the same generation and the conversations could get very cryptic. It didn't help that 10 of the 12 man team were Dutch.
