I'm curled up in
gothslut's bed, after dropping her off at work this morning. I couldn't face the drive back to Milton Keynes straight away, we only got to sleep at about 3am - so I sneaked back under the duvet and fired up the laptop. Last night was great :) This morning, I can still smell her scent on the pillow and almost feel her next to me when I close my eyes...
Life looks so much better from this perspective it might as well be a different thing to what I was calling life Thursday/Friday. I seem to spike up and down really badly at the minute - life is always fantastically good or horrendously bad. I'm not sure if this is all in my head or if my life really is a bit like that just now...
Thursday night and Friday daytime were miserable, I think it would be fair to say. I'm really really worried about how bad the outcome of this insurance screw up is going to be. I didn't sleep much Thursday night, and Friday I spent most of the day on the phone or on the 'net trying to sort out my insurance and morbidly reading other people's accounts of how much trouble they got in for doing similar things. It's never good, it seems.
Friday night was much nicer... having got my insurance, I went to see
duranorak in London and we went to Electric Ballroom which was lots of fun. I stuck my head in the noo-metal room upstairs, which appeared to be full of 12 year old girls - hardly any of them came up to my shoulder, and I'm only 5'10 ?! Downstairs was on top form, with much beep, bleep, bounce and boing, so I enjoyed that. I also got to see
duranorak dancing which is always a distinct pleasure - she's very graceful...
On the way back from EB I did something particularly stupid - I was so busy looking at road signs (I'd got us lost, again) that I ran a red light. It was a pedestrian crossing and no-one was using it, so it wasn't a dangerous mistake, but the lights had a camera - so now I can look forward to another 3 points to join the 6 to 8 that the insurance thing is going to get me. This is Not Good (tm).
Speaking with
gothslut last night, I had a smart and slightly sneaky idea - I could re-insure my bike now, then I'll be covered all summer. They're unlikely to load the premium much until the renewal next winter - at which point I'll probably just have to give it up, but at least I get the whole summer on it this way. I'll lose some money (won't quality for no-claims discount this year) but I'll get to ride my bike in summer. I think it's hard to overstate how important this feels to me... I couldn't ride much last summer due to the depression - I really really want to ride this summer, especially if it turns out to be my last chance for a few years.
Saturday morning
duranorak finally managed to kick me awake around 11am, at which point I hid under the duvet and ignored her while she spodded (I was sleeping in the room her PC is in). Eventually I emerged from the bed and got up. We spent a few hours together at her place which was... very interesting. I'm still thinking about that.
Then we went to Camden, which was... very expensive! You know the unwritten rule with Camden is that you can't leave until you've spent more than you meant to? Well I really managed it this time... I spent £167.75 on three juggling balls. No, they don't juggle themselves, although for that kind of money I was hoping ;) Actually what they do is glow - they're internally illuminated - one blue, one red, and one (the really expensive bit) has both blue and red lights and some tricky circuitry that means you can program it to do all kinds of funky stuff... change colour when you catch it, stay blue, stay red, light both at once and go a cool pink/purple colour, strobe at various speeds, etc etc etc. Not many juggling balls come with a manual and a programming guide, but this one did.
As shiny things go, it's pretty definitively shiny :)
I spent some time juggling in Cyberdog before we left Camden, which was kind of cool because people were watching me (and not just to point and laugh). Attention good :) Unfortunately I seemed to contribute (along with some excellent music and a rather pretty guy podium dancing) to
duranorak 'blowing a fuse', which was a bit worrying. We headed back to her place, but I had to leave not long after as I'd arranged to meet
firewoman that evening.
Leaving was very hard.
Finding Liverpool Street Station was surprisingly easy, and I parked up outside with the flashing red/blue light on the dashboard so
firewoman could spot me :) Once she'd thrown the world's largest duffel bag in the back of the car, we headed back to my place. I hardly got lost at all leaving London, which was a plus.
We watched a video (Plunkett and McClane (I don't know either)) once we'd got back, and I microwaved something while
firewoman made disparaging comments about my definition of 'food'... I'll have you know that's the healthiest thing I've eaten for weeks! :) Then we sloped off to bed. The morning passed unnoticed, and when we woke up in the afternoon we watched Star Wars II on DVD (on the laptop in bed... yay).
Entrusting
firewoman to the vagaries of Railtrack at Central Milton Keynes station, I drove to Cambridge and
gothslut. Yes, that does add up to three rather attractive girls, one each day of the weekend... thanks for noticing :)
Incidentally,
firewoman did text me to say she'd got home safely (thanks for that). I never know whether to worry more about weird strangers or public transport these days... they're both potentially irrational and/or dangerous.
Sunday evening was spent watching Futurama and Buffy with
gothslut and
deliberateblank. Sunday night was spent, well, busy. *smug mode*. And that brings us up to date - Monday morning, and I suppose I should get up and drive back to Milton Keynes and visit the office soon...
...but for now, I'm just laying in bed with a dreamy smile.
