If for some reason you have to use Fedora Core instead of a less braindead distribution (i.e. anything, as far as I can make out), particularly as a desktop, then you will undoubtedly find the following link extremely frustration-relieving:

Edit: go on then, while I've broached the subject here in my ventings, let's hear your recommendations for Linux distros (preferably with a why, but blind zealotry is also welcome) :) I've been a Debian fan for several years now, but I'm currently contemplating an exploratory mission into Gentoo territory.

The reason I'm using Fedora is that our work servers are Centos (I always wondered who used that, now I know), so we run Fedora on our desktops to give us something vaguely resembling a similar environment.

A. Soak it in parafin and then throw a match at it.

(badum, tish)

The mission to entertain [livejournal.com profile] bluecassandra last night went fairly well, I think... she looked suitably amused by our antics. I was mildly surprised at the lack of laughing when I managed to tangle myself in lit fire-poi, but maybe I didn't sustain serious enough injuries to be really funny ;) (I lost some skin off one finger to a burn directly from the flames or the wick, and got a larger but less serious burn on my upper inner arm, presumably from one of the chains rather than the other wick)

Anyway, rather the fingers than the hair :)

This evening I'm going to actually try to unpack some of the vast pile of boxes in my flat. I have no idea where I'm going to start on that lot, but at least I'll have some company while I poke it - [livejournal.com profile] _neophyte_ is coming over to heckle, and apparently to cook dinner too which is something of a bonus.

Forgot to mention, I got another letter this week from my lawyer, following up from the one I mentioned last month. She says the judge has apparently granted the request for a full judgement in my favour, as the case has now been transferred to Croydon County Court for the compensation side of things to be settled. She adds that the opponent can still apply for this judgement to be "set aside", but so far it's looking good.

In other news, I thought I'd remind everyone of the remarkably practical meme that went around a while ago, encouraging everyone to post their contact details in a post titled 'Contact Details', and then put it in their LJ memories under (surprise surprise) 'Contact Details'. For bonus points, you can also link it from your userinfo with the link text 'Contact Details' (are you seeing a theme here?). Then if people want to contact you, they know where to look for the info.

A whole bunch of people on my friends list did this the last time it went around, and it was really useful for a while, but now my friends list seems to have expanded/shifted to cover a lot of people who don't seem to have heard of the idea - so there you go. Go do it :) Obviously you can post it public, friends only, or filtered, according to your personal privacy requirements... mine is filtered at present, although I keep meaning to split it into two posts, one with public stuff (mobile, personal email) and the other with filtered stuff (postal address, etc).
