Bookshelf Meme
Sep. 29th, 2003 03:18 pmInstructions: Take one list of authors, remove those whose efforts do not grace your shelves and make the list up to ten by adding some more that do.
Ursula Le Guin
Neal Stephenson
Frank Herbert
Michael Marshall Smith
Steve Erickson
Victor Hugo
John Wyndham
Margaret Atwood
Michael Moorcock
Lewis Carroll
Mercedes Lackey
Julian May
William Gibson
Robert Heinlein
I also considered adding Iain M. Banks (but he'd only just been removed from the list in his Iain Banks guise), and Terry Pratchett (but I prefer the ones I've listed).

Kentucky Fried Poll
Sep. 29th, 2003 06:59 pm[Poll #185749]
I think my thoughts here will be clear from the bias in the answers. I'm sorry, but I don't believe that thing has enough flesh on it to legally be considered a named cut of meat - I have no idea what Kentucky call it, but I call it a sneaky way to sell you three pieces of edible chicken and charge you for six, because there are three of those things at the bottom of the bucket. The only use for them is that you can pick the herbs and spices stuff off and eat it with your chips, but that's an expensive bit of seasoning.

Instant Messenger lock-outs, take 2
Sep. 29th, 2003 09:04 pmI keep forgetting to mention this... in the midst of all the excited shouting about how Microsoft were planning to lock third-party software such as Trillian and gAIM out of their IM network, no-one really took any notice of the fact that Yahoo quietly did the same thing, only with less in the way of up-front announcements. So I can no longer talk to anyone using Yahoo Messenger. I recommend Jabber or ICQ if you want to find me online, although I also have AIM (and MSN is still working at present). IDs are all in my user info here on LJ.
