It's to stop people writing little computer programs to click the links en mass for them - that kind of thing tends to upset the people who pay to display adverts on the site.
Not that you couldn't write a program that can read those numbers and click appropriately... but it's a lot more complex than just pressing a single 'continue' button would be.
