As for the house, you could sell it for a paper profit which will be entirely consumed in buying another house in any place south of York that isn't a battle zone. or rent it out as a self-supporting asset. I really do not recommend commuting MK to Cambridge; the road links are far too shit.
One of my ex-cow-orkers got a job in MK (with Tiscali) and had to get there at about 09:30 every morning from Cambridge. A year or so of that turned him into a shalmbling zombie, then he gave in and moved to MK to preserve his remaining sanity.
