denny: (Biker)
[personal profile] denny
Today, I get home from work. My neighbour, the one who races motorcycles semi-professionally, has parked his transit van outside my house, so I park the bike up the other side of it. He sticks his head out of his front door and shouts 'hi', so I chat to him for a bit, then go indoors while he gets in his van to move it.

I've just started talking to [livejournal.com profile] duranorak when there is a loud 'clonk' from outside the house. I knew what it was... lifted the curtain to reveal that yes, the motorcyclist from across the road has just reversed his van into my bike and knocked it over. I had to laugh. Especially when I saw how embarrassed he looked  :)

Fortunately being a racer, he has lots of spare bike bits in his garage, so we managed to fix most of the damage with things he already had, and he's going to sort the last odds and ends out for me tomorrow night. He's also given me a new chain, which will save me some cash when I get the bike serviced on Thursday.

My bike is probably feeling slightly picked on by this stage. I should probably buy it a nice shiny new bit to make it feel better, but someone would only steal it or run it over again, so maybe not.

Update: just went out to get dinner and it turns out the handlebars are bent too. Went over and told my neighbour, who added a new set of handlebars to his shopping list for tomorrow with good grace. I feel slightly sorry for him, but not as sorry as I do for my bike  :)

Note to self: wheelies with bent handlebars are a Bad Idea™. One has an inclination to pull the bars straight as one takes off - leading to an unnerving sideways drift while the front wheel is in the air.
