Along with [livejournal.com profile] dennyd's, a very apt icon.

My ex was violent and he always used to say to me that I could never catch him for it because he never left a mark. To hear that someone did this and got away with it makes me sick.

What the fucking fuck?
The circumstances of the marriage provoked him? Was the iron no wider than his thumb then?
Question: Do you reckon he'd be in prison now if he was working class?

I was so angry when I read this.

Not a threat to others? He cut someone's foot with a knife while they slept because they didn't make him a sandwich! The man clearly has a warped sense of personal responsibility and some serious anger management issues. While locking him up might not necessarily help, he needs to at the very least be put into some sort of enforced therapy.

And £2000 is a pathetic sum for the injuries and mental distress this woman suffered. Ambulance-chasing lawyers regularly get more than that for people who trip over in the street!

I did notice that he attacked her with a knife for not making a sandwich, and with an iron for not pressing his shirt. Presumably she's lucky she didn't forget to put petrol in the car.

I'm with the enforced therapy idea, yeah.

I commented on this in reply to the Daily Mail - along the lines of take a look at this picture - make a note of this name - do not employ this man - do not date this man - needless to say they didn't print it.

I feel extra sick upon realising that I recognise him: I used to wait-on at Magdalene's formal halls. I wonder what would have happened if I or one of my colleagues had made a mistake, e.g. spilled something, when serving him: would we have gotten a plate to the face?

Bloody Hell!

If he'd done this to some random stranger in the street instead of his wife, I'm sure he'd be facing a jail term. It's appalling that he was just given a slap on the wrist with a measly fine.

As for "his job meant he was too "busy" to find the time to complete any order", I mean, fuck that. If I don't pay my electricity bill, the electric company won't let me off just because I was "too busy", and in the courtroom that shouldn't be a consideration either.

I'd like to see this verdict appealed (and that judge sacked, but that's not going to happen), however I suspect that after all this the wife would be even more reluctant to give any more evidence or see it drag on... :-(
