In slightly better news, today's housework procrastination led me in the direction of the spare-change jars in the bedroom. I've just finished counting the lot, and it comes to a pleasing total in excess of £500 :) Which makes me feel slightly better about the laptop incident last month, tempts me in the direction of underlighting again, and on the other hand, does look rather like a well-timed buffer-zone for moving expenses. I guess I'll hang onto it for now.

I empty my pockets every time I come into the flat - I don't like carrying change around. 280 of it is pound coins, and just over 40 is £2 coins.

Not sure for how long - I've cashed up the pound coins once or twice since I moved to London (~2 years), and probably some 50p coins, but probably not any of the smaller silver.

I have just over 40 quid of £2 coins, exactly 280 pound coins, 60 quid in 50p, 100 quid in 20p, and the rest in 10p, 5p, or unbagged odds and ends of the larger silver.

I've just counted it all and bagged it up, I'm not pouring it all over the bed to take a pic now :)

By the beard of the prophet! I guess I do something similar, except I don't have a jar, it just goes into the corner somewhere.

You mentioning pouring it onto your bed gave me images of you rolling around in money, literally, of course, but then I remembered that none of it's paper money, which is kind of key really, isn't it? Now I'm just thinking about the pain/discomfort, plus the possible choking hazard..

Okay, so I'm a geek, and I have separate jars for silver and pound coins. I used to have one for copper too, but when I'd completely filled an 800g mayo jar with 1p and 2p coins, I counted them all, and it was less than 8 quid. Wasn't worth the time it took to count them :) So now I just throw them away.

It'd make an amusing story to tell to the other people in casualty.

"So you got a 50p stuck in your throat?"
"Uh, not in my throat, no..."

They have nice big machines in some supermarkets (Sainsbury) to do this sort of thing for you and change it up for you...

i think that shots of denny posing on a bed of pound and silver coins would have a certain bling bling quality to it ;)

Yeah, our local one charges 8% - that would have cost me over 40 quid if I'd stuck all my change in it last night.

Yeah, but 92% of £8 (your coppers) is still £7.36 :)

Plus it could be quite fun ;)

*boggles at the huge piles of cash*

I'm still disowning you if the underlighting is green.

Green is worse than orange?

Eww, why would anyone get orange underlighting?

The usual choices are blue, green, red, purple, or (occasionally) white. Or variable full-colour-range LED-based stuff, but that's disproportionately expensive.

Eww, why would anyone get...underlighting?

Quite. :)

I wasn't aware there was such a limited palette! Surely more exciting things can be done than solid colour or fading in and out?

The bolder brighter colours tend to work better practically, and usually aesthetically.
