There was an article yesterday suggesting that it would largely affect stuff about animals and corpses. Nobody seems very sure about what exactly would be involved.

The consultation document - which it might be an idea to read - aims to cover
Intercourse or oral sex with an animal . . . sexual interference with a human corpse . . . serious violence in a sexual context . . . serious sexual violence . . . we mean violence in respect of which a prosecution of grevious bodily harm could be brought.

There are potential issues here, but not the ones people mostly seem to be discussing.

It's the 'serious violence in a sexual context / serious sexual violence' bits that people are discussing on my friends list - I've not seen anyone (on LJ) discussing stuff that's not potentially covered by that.

I know I've done things in the bedroom (consensually) that would qualify for a GBH charge - cutting is one obvious one - and they're fairly clearly gunning for breath-play (which I've done more often than cutting, but I'm not sure actually qualifies as GBH) due to the murder case that's contributing to the excitement around the issue right now.

Which probably won't stop them passing a law about it, then leaving it to the courts to decide what it actually means based on the personal prejudices of whatever judge happens to get the case.

Or at least, on whatever he wants it to look like his personal prejudices are - a friend of mine was telling me that he was at a local fetish night last week and he bumped into the last judge he appeared in front of for some misdemeanour. I do often wonder how many of the full-face masks at Torture Garden etc are hiding faces that can't afford to be seen for similar reasons...

I've recently actually started watching porn. I'm single again and I figured I'd try to find out what all the fuss and industry is about as I've never really watched porn (unless you count accidentally - actually accidentally - putting my gay flatmate's hard-core porn tape into the VCR that time).

One of the things that struck me (so far it's only straight porn I've witnessed) is the pity I felt for both parties - the bloke is just as much an 'abused' employee of the system as the girl. But because she is a receptacle, is seen as passive, and therefore more easily-seen as 'victim.'

I do like what he's saying, though, in terms of "fix the problem." Always sounds obvious when someone says it, and us liberal types say "of course," but everyone likes quick, conscience-salving solutions, don't they?

Fair enough. I've found that porn showing normal, everyday sex does absolutely nothing for me. I can do that myself, and my noises are more realistic ;) Solo girl with a fucking machine, on the other hand*... ;)
