Very Metal
Nov. 23rd, 2002 01:32 amGig at the Boat Race tonight was fairly good.
First band, Gore, were enthusiastic if a bit sloppy (they seemed tighter on the fastest bits which struck me as odd), but they win massive kudos points for their thrash version of the Tetris music. Kick-fucking-arse :)
Second band, Anachoic Reflection (AR) were Very Very Good. Incredible bassist, amusingly enthusiastic guitarist on one side and brand new guitarist on the other, both doing a bloody good job. Oh, and their kudos points come from getting on the stage and launching straight into a really good instrumental piece - no coughing, twanging, or introducing themselves. I always like bands that turn up and play music. If they'd had demo CDs with them, I would have bought one - as it is I've asked to be put on their mailling list and will definitely try to go see them again sometime.
(Someone declared a one-man moshpit during this set and managed to sprain my wrist by shoving me into the front of the stage so hard that I bounced off a monitor speaker and almost took a guitarist out with it - calm down a bit, eh?! Or at least find a friend to play with...)
Third band, headlining, Geared4 (what is it with these bands sticking numbers on their names? I think it's a ploy to make sure they can register the band name as a website address personally). Very tight sound, but not as musically impressive as AR in my opinion... definite crowd-pleasing finish with two early Metallica tracks. I bounced a lot :)

firewoman with me, who looked stunning all night, as well as possibly slightly stunned. I'm not entirely sure thrash bands are her favourite thing ;) Hopefully her hearing will come back soon though...
