Eeeenteresting...
Got an email from my solicitor yesterday; the other party has offered to settle at 90/10 liability (that's 90% his fault, 10% mine). She recommended that I rejected the offer, which is good because I don't intend to accept any split-liability settlement. Still, interesting that their offer has gone from 40/60 or whatever it was a few months ago, to 90/10 a few weeks before the trial.
Just to keep track, that means they've now offered me the following settlements on liability at various points over the last four years: 60/40, 75/25, 75/25, 80/20, 40/60, 90/10.
I wonder how long the argument about 'how much?' is going to take once the one about the liability is finished.

I do hope for you that the money issue is more easily decided...

As for how long the next stage will take, how long is a piece of string may well be appropriate. I think I've mentioned this before, but my sister was hit on a zebra crossing, while the green man was well and truly showing, of the two lanes of traffic the nearside had stopped - stupid elderly man who shouldn't even have been driving, decided not to stop in the farside lane, ploughing straight into my sister and her daughter, though thankfully my sister took the force of the knock. The injuries were numerous, she was off her feet for a long time, had a couple of follow up ops over the next 12 months to continue repairs...she couldn't work, plan for anything, had her whole life on hold. The liable party's solicitors kept the whole compensation wrangle going for years, quite literally - in the end she took a settlement well below what she was due because she wanted closure and an end to the whole situation. I can understand how she felt, but it's not something that I would advise.
Maybe other people have had a more positive experience in these matters and it won't take as long as it did in my sisters situation. I've never heard of it happening, but I hope it does and sooner rather than later, you are one of them :)
