"But enough about me..."

I know very little about some of the people on my Friends list. Some people I know relatively well. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say, 'Ah, there's so and so - she likes office supplies and hentai.'

I'd love it if every single person who Friended me would do this (although I hardly expect this to happen). Yes, even you people who I know really well.

I am a mix of very fiesty rude girl, and completely prudish proper young lady. Neither are an act. I sometimes wish i was one or the other!

[identity profile] dennyd.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
That's such a fantastic mixture though! Does the rude girl in you enjoy upsetting the prude? :)

they are pretty discreet actually. When one is to the fore, she doesn't think of the other to much.

Though prude worries about her rep when faced with the photographic evidence of previous activities!

I'm a crazy little Canadian girl who's completely addicted to her computer and the Internet (okay, not so little). I know you know some stuff about me (that I'm addicted to KoC and met my bf there), but I've also been married (technically still am, although the divorce should go through this summer or fall) and have been separated for six years. I also have a very precocious eight year old daughter. Oh, and I have two International Business diplomas and am finishing up my psych and english degrees. I claim to be a strong, independent woman (I love power tools and home renovations), but don't mind letting my boyfriend take care of me from time to time (and he's the first I've been willing to let do so).

Mmmm, ego massage...

I'm a roleplayer, I find most things about life funny for one reason or another, I love movies and am an Alice Cooper fan. I have been known to draw and occasionally update a webcomic called Fight the Cuteness.

Reviews of me include: nice, loud, funny, weird, a psycho bitch, and disturbing, but overall I think I just try to enjoy life and never take things that don't matter too seriously. :)

i'm fascinated by anything marginalised and underground, be it extremist politics, conspiracy theories, 60s pornography, 70s gore movies, gonzo journalism, underground metal or the occult. i'm constantly discovering new aspects of culture to research.

[identity profile] kissycat1000.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
I've accidently collected a small amount of certain types of cat sculptures/carvings; ones that are sleek, artistic and show the personality of a cat rather than being 'cute'.

I have a fascination with unusual clocks, for instance I used to have an analogue one in which the hands and the numbers went backwards (I miss it). I've seen one where the clock face hangs off and continually turns around a fixed point (which indicates the time), and one that use ballbearings that drop into trays in an 'abacus' type of system. If I could afford to, I'd collect them all and be the 'weird clock lady'.

I've just re-typed the word 'sculptures' (in the first sentence) several times because it looked wrong, and typing this sentence has now made me paranoid enough to actually check the correct spelling in dictionary.com.

I almost always procrastinate until the very last minute and thenI get stressed about impending deadlines. However I do always seem to get things done on time (though barely, and often with help).

I've recently discovered that I prefer not to wear knickers. How I've got to this age and not discovered this before, I have not idea...

[identity profile] dennyd.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
The last girlfriend I lived with had a backwards clock. It messed up my ability to tell the time from analogue clocks for a while - I would glance at them (either this one or a normal one) and always get the time right, but never believe that I had, so then I'd spend minutes carefully triple-checking my initial glance.

[identity profile] kissycat1000.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 10:21 am (UTC)(link)
I loved mine. It was my mothers and she knew how much I loved it so she gave it to me when I moved out. I got into the habit of reading all clocks backwards though, and remember 'correcting' the analogue clock in her new car, even though it was right...

Sorry for all the waffle above, I wanted to tell you stuff that isn't widely known about me, and I got carried away... lol

[identity profile] dennyd.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
That's what the meme is for :) And who wouldn't want to know that you're probably not wearing any underwear?! *fidgets* Actually, I am meant to be working. :-P

I like the sound of the clock that moves around the fixed point, that sounds cool. I've seen the ball-bearing ones before, they're okay but I dunno, they didn't strike me as 'unusual' - just different. If that makes sense?

[identity profile] kissycat1000.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's clocks that work in different ways that fascinates me, rather than clocks with unusual faces for instance. My dad has the ballbearing one, he built it from a kit when they were popular in the sixties. The noise would probably drive me mad, but I love the concept. :)

[identity profile] kissycat1000.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I actually had to think really hard about this one. It sounds like something that I'd do, but I'm pretty sure that on this occasion it wasn't me. Sorry!

I've never met you and probably never will, but we share a few common friends - sal, hannah, serena etc.

I'm living in luton with my kids now although i was living in london last year. I'm unemployed now although previous jobs have been a design engineer for shutdown systems on power stations and oil rigs, performance analyst, design engineer for compressors and generators, and most recently crime and environment manager for haringey council. I'm a bit burnt out now :) I paint and play crap music and look after the kids at the moment.

I like strange, emotionally-draining books, and my favourite colour is electric blue. I have too many shoes, few of which are practical or comfortable. I have an eye for vintage clothes and charity shop finds and can never resist a bargain. Photographs of me are consistently terrible. I identify with Scarlett O'Hara:

Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm as the Tarleton twins were. Her eyes were green without a touch of hazel, starred with briskly black lashes and slightly tilted at the ends. But for all the modesty of her spreading skirts, the demureness of hair netted smoothly into a chignon and the quietness of small white hands folded in her lap, her true self was poorly concealed. The green eyes in the carefully sweet face were turbulent, willful, lusty with life, distinctly at variance with her decorous demeanor.

[identity profile] dennyd.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
A girl cannot own too many shoes. What you have is a shortage of either wardrobe space, or reasons to wear them :)

[identity profile] valkyriekaren.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to sell some of them because they don't fit properly and I don't have the time or inclination to break them in.

You know quite a lot about me - quite a few people do - one of the side effects of having a *web presence/ scene presence* - and of hanging around in similar places.

As for some stuff you dont know about me - I was head girl of my junior school - I represented my school and Sheffield Poytechnic at tennis - I sleep with a plimsol under my pillow to stop my partner snoring ( because I can ) ...... I have a penchant for pink wine and champagne - and I have a passion for the unusual in all its forms ........... I also have a shoe collection that Immelda Marcos would be proud of !

I'm a lot less confident than I used to be, and compensate by bouncing lots and generally being skippy. I've recently developed an attraction for LARPing. I'm currently unemployed and going back to jobs in the Mental Health service. I also tend to wear no underwear, but I guess that's a less appealing thought than with [livejournal.com profile] kissycat1000. ~I'm constantly surprised by how small the world is getting. I'll talk to anybody. I like to ignore the fact that some people proabably find my Kender-style nature intensely irritating. I'm partially deaf. I've developed a recent love of Okra. I tend to avoid TV. I need a bath.

That do you?

I think we've only met about twice, once at Mulberry Close when you turned up to a barbecue with [livejournal.com profile] elise on a motorbike.

I'm an intermittent depressive, with unusual politics and a tendancy to rant a lot about said politics. I'm fiercely loyal to those who I deem to have earned it, but on the flipside of that I am often very hurtful towards those who I dislike. I love using Linux and playing for my brass band, and I fear spiders and those annoying gangs of youths who hang around intimidating people near off-licences. I think that classically-styled cars − like the various flat rad Morgans − and anything steam-powered are fantastic.

[identity profile] mejoff.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a Larper and a Goth, a one-man-band called sinflower, in search of gigs/contract, an admirer of the naked human form, an overuser of computers and a crossover resident of London and Oxfnord. with apparently several mutual friends.

[identity profile] kelemvor.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I have way too many friends in common with you only to have met you a couple of months ago, but that is the case. (You beat me at the road injuries comparison.)
I'm a university graduate with a useless degree and not quite enough transferable skills...

Quotation

[identity profile] dryad-wombat.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
This is my favourite Shakespeare quote. It's from Antony's death scene in Antony and Cleopatra. I am quoting from memory so the line breaks will not be perfect.

... Oh see, my women,
The crown of the earth doth melt.
[Antony dies]
O, withered is the garland of the war.
The soldier's pole is fallen; young boys and girls
Are level now with men. The odds is gone.
And there is nothing left remarkable
Beneath the visiting moon.

(I choke up even just writing that!)

My favourite poem is Porphyria's Lover (http://www.scottmccloud.com/comics/porphyria/porphyria.html) and I like reading comics which make me cry. I play euphonium badly, and trombone and piano worse.

[identity profile] snoof.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a fairly well-known fact that I'm terribly frightened of spiders and unknown bugs. However, I'm also completely phobic about dragonflies for no good reason.

And I'm secretly dead paranoid, but I mostly understand when it's becoming unhealthy and cut it off. Not paying attention to it doesn't make it go away, but it ensures I won't act on it and be a completely irrational twunt because of it.
