(to be interpreted as 'which of these traits would you prefer other people to have?')

1. Beauty or brains?

Brains. Excessively visually oriented though I am, this one is no problem at all.

I'm something of a snob about intelligence to be honest - I make no distinctions based on social class, but I generally find stupid people incredibly irritating after quite short periods of exposure, and would rather not associate with them at all whenever possible.

(insert reference to Izzard's "doesn't suffer fools gladly" sketch here)

I do have a tendency to make snap judgements about intelligence based on how articulate someone is, particularly how well they write online - which isn't always fair, but does tend to be right more often than it's wrong.

2. Boring but good (loyal, honest, trustworthy) or interesting but evil (dishonest, manipulative, fickle)?

Interesting but evil. This one took me less time than I thought it would to decide - possibly helped by the fact that I have a recent example to contemplate.

My personal belief system centres around the purpose of life being to have as much fun as possible. I think interesting people, no matter how deceitful and otherwise problematic they are, are always going to be more fun than a boring good person. Even when you take into account the fallout that has to be dealt with.

That said, I think the traits you've outlined aren't really strong enough to be called good and evil - I would just class them as 'honest' and 'dishonest' or 'trustworthy' and 'deceitful'. Maybe if we were talking about brain surgeon vs serial killer levels of good vs evil, I might have to change my opinion.

I've been thinking about the second question, and have realised that I tend to drift away from both types. There are enough interesting and good people around that I can be friends with; I don't have to put up with boring or evil.

I resisted the urge to add a note to that effect, as obviously the questions are more fun when the choice is either/or.
