The high cost of driving...

Noticed that my tyres were getting a bit on the treadless side recently, and as I'm driving to London tonight I thought it was about time I got them sorted. All four tyres. £240. Ouch.

Oh well, these things have to be done from time to time. Mind you, I'd better have traction to make Spiderman jealous for that kind of money...

Look on the bright side, if you'd just said your tyres were getting treadless and you *hadn't* replaced them, under no circumstances would i get into your car.

Yeah, it's because of the way I drive that I'm generally quite keen on spending lots of money on having good (expensive) tyres rather than whatever budget special the garage has on offer that week. I could have done all four for just over £100 this morning, but I wouldn't want to drive it afterwards!

Thinking back, I spent more than this (£260) on two new tyres for my bike a few months ago, so perhaps I should be getting used to it. Of course, the bike is a fairly high performance vehicle, whereas the car is just an old runabout...

Still, car or bike, you've only got a very limited amount of rubber making the actual contact between you and the road surface - so I'd like it to be a very well researched and carefully manufactured bit of rubber personally :)

Well obviously we like all our rubber to be carefully manufactured, but as far as bits that contact the road go... I dunno, I'm not much of a tarmac fetishist personally.
