Wow, you list freedom of information! That's been my JOB for the last 9 months - I create training programs and publicity and guidance for the University of Edinburgh preparing 7,000 staff to take FOI terribly seriously as of 1 Jan.
It's a hacker thing - "Information wants to be free", as the saying goes. I mostly mean it within the context of free/open software, and related technical issues, although I'm also interested in more open and accountable government.
