I noticed this reported some days ago, and immediately thought "hahaha, they're relying on Linux now". It helps that I know people who worked or work at Akamai.
(Akamai is neat stuff, really neat stuff. I wanted go to work for them, but having seen how they treated their staff when layoffs came, I'm not so unhappy I didn't get to)

Although they are currently expanding again... thanks in large part to a hefty contract with MicroSoft. :)

... and I know unemployed people in Boston who won't work for them even though Akamai offered them jobs, because of how Akamai treated the previous employees they laid off.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing that they're a bunch of bastards who treat employees poorly. I know far too many of them to think they're even approaching sweetness and light status. I very nearly worked on the administrative end of things there, but was not terribly impressed with who/what I would have had to work with.

I do hope the market is picking up enough for the people you know to find work soon. It's difficult to predict what will happen with the IT industry.

I just find the Akamai/MS team-up amusing...
