It wasn't particularly painful - my pain tolerance is quite interesting since the accident anyway. I still have a fairly low pain threshold, but I seem to have quite a high tolerance if I know it's coming. If that makes sense.

As for useful, I guess that can only be assessed over a longer time-frame... I hope so too :-\
