The weekend did not go according to plan, what with one thing and another. We managed to pull a reasonably nice time out of it, but it was quite hard work.

Friday we were heading to the House of Monkeys for a peaceful night of lounging around and chatting. This seemed to turn into a less peaceful (although quite entertaining in places) evening of many people coming and going, and a game of OMG Munchkin (I've just decided to name it that, as naming all the decks of cards mixed up in that stack would take (a) too long and (b) a memory). Helen and I bailed on the Munchkin game early and headed home for much needed sleeping.

Saturday's plans included the PA after-party, then a photoshoot, then Acid Jam, then Avalon's party. We managed, um... the photoshoot. Well, [livejournal.com profile] libellum, [livejournal.com profile] cuteevilpixie and [livejournal.com profile] synthclarion managed the photoshoot - myself and [livejournal.com profile] fire_brand sat around in the other room chatting, occasionally stopping to listen with mild concern to the amount of manic giggling we could hear :) After the photoshoot wrapped up, we mooched a bit and then decided to head to the still-staggering-along PA after-party at [livejournal.com profile] willlondon's place. Having a sober and sensible weekend made it quite difficult for me to gel with the proceedings, but I managed it part of the time through the medium of hugs. (I'm increasingly of the opinion that our social circle is almost entirely powered by hugs - we should get stickers made or something.) Helen wasn't quite so sober (yay, gin), and therefore seemed to fit in with things a little better than I :) We headed off about 1am (after being fed late-night spaghetti bolognaise, go Team Will!) to repeat the 'much needed sleeping' trick (we almost managed it, although [livejournal.com profile] glamwhorebunni's 4am arrival with bagloads of kit and an impressive new facial scar did break the night up slightly).

Sunday was of course the picnic I'd organised in honour of 'the only sunny day this summer'. Ahem. I blame [livejournal.com profile] denari. Anyway... we got as far as Camden Sainsburys before it starting not only raining, but in fact thunderstorming. This seemed like a good time to invoke plan B, which was inviting people back to Helen's place. Once we got there, Helen realised she didn't actually want her flat invaded by loads of people she didn't know very well, so I had to politely bounce a few people. Then she realised that actually she didn't want to be around people at all, so I had to deter any more incoming people, ask rather a lot more people to leave, and generally re-tune the party to be one that Helen could cope with. I think we ended up with a hand-picked shortlist of about a dozen people, which worked reasonably well and we had a nice evening, but it was all quite hard work up to then. On the bright side we did get to see Avalon on her birthday weekend, which was nice.

Sorry to everyone who got messed around by me and/or Helen shifting plans repeatedly on short notice, and also apologies to anyone who got caught in the thunderstorm at the park by virtue of turning up on time... as I said at the start of this entry, apparently this weekend had Not According To Plan written all over it.

On the bright side, one of the conversations I had this weekend contained very positive news, and so I'm a very happy Denny. More details once things settle down a bit, I hope :)

Picnics. I assume everyone is aware of the reason that I haven't organised any more picnics since the (very successful) first two. If anyone is on first-name terms with any weather deities, give them a slap. Normal service will be resumed as soon as the summer comes back from wherever it's gone and hidden.

There may or may not be a picnic this Saturday... it will depend on how people are feeling after Planet Angel. If it's nice and warm out and a lazy few hours in the park seems like a good idea, then something might happen - probably in Finsbury Park. However, if the outside world seems like a complicated and scary place, or it's at all cold, then we may well stay hidden behind the sofa or something instead.

So, no pre-organisation happening this time, as I can't guarantee that I or anyone else will be there. If you'd like a shout on the day if we do end up doing something, let me know and I'll try to send out some text messages at the time. No promises here - this one is going to be a bit flaky, if it happens at all :)

Next Picnic: Tomorrow!! Same time, same place!*

* for those who didn't come to the last one, the rough plan is:

Meet at Sainsburys in Camden at 1pm. Buy food and drink, head to the park around quarter to two, arriving around 2pm. Settle somewhere near the central drinking fountains, preferably in some shade (see map below for our preferred spot). Acquire stragglers throughout day :)

In other only vaguely related news, I seem to have pretty much figured out basic four-ball juggling. I'm quite pleased.

Many thanks to everyone who turned up to the picnic - I had a really nice time, which was greatly appreciated after a really difficult week. Everyone else seemed to be having fun too, and there were a number of requests for a repeat occurence ASAP. So:

Next Picnic: Saturday April 21st (yes, six days from now). Same time, same place!*

I wasn't sure about doing another one so soon, but a fair number of people at yesterday's picnic suggested it, so there we go... hope to see you there!

Extra special thanks to those who came to the rather smaller gathering at the Catcave afterwards. Again, it was very good for my soul - many hugs to all involved.

Reminder: PICNIC TOMORROW! :)

Meet at 1pm at Camden Sainsburys, heading to Regents Park (probably north-east corner, i.e. the bit nearest to Camden) for 2pm.

Bring food and drink, or buy it at Sainsburys. Also bring interesting people and fun toys :)

Regents Park, this Saturday, 2pm until we get bored / the sun goes away / whatever.

Bring food, drink, people, poi, staffs, juggling balls, hoola hoops, etc etc etc. I'm going to try to figure out how to bring music with us.

Who's in?

[Poll #965031]

Update: I suggest we use the usual approach of meeting up at Camden Sainsburys at 1pm to buy munchies etc, then walking up to the park from there. Latecomers can phone someone in the group to find out where we eventually land, but it's probably going to be in the North-East corner as that's the closest bit to Camden.
