The opening night of the exhibition last night was, I think it's safe to say, a huge success professionally. The girls were both very happy when it started, and then hysterically happy when people started buying things. I think they sold four or five paintings and nearly half of their 3D pieces by the end of the evening. (Update: someone just got hold of me on IRC to buy two more of the paintings, making seven sold now)

For me, the night was an interesting emotional see-saw, with some people being spectacularly inconsiderate of my feelings, and a much much larger group of people being incredibly considerate - coming to find me when they saw something that they knew would have upset me, pulling me out of corners, hugging me back to functional a hundred times or more. There are many good people in my circle of friends.

Most particularly, to [livejournal.com profile] flippit - thank you. Again.

Imminence

Just spent an hour or so helping Helen get the exhibition ready at The Foundry... it's quite exciting seeing it all come together :) Shame I couldn't help for longer, but work is really not going well this week. Today I are mostly be abusing caffeine. *twitch*

Hopefully I will finish work before The Foundry closes today, so that I can go and have a look at all the art on the walls - I don't want to have to wait until tomorrow!

Things seem to have gone quite badly and very unexpectedly wrong in one little area of my life. Unfortunately it's one that was bringing me a great deal of happiness lately, so now I'm really quite sad and upset. Normal service will hopefully be resumed at some point, once I've got over the shock.

Sometimes it's very difficult to remember the good things about life at these times, so let's look at those:

* My girlfriend is great. She is snuggly and lovely and has tried very hard to be patient with my somewhat wonky moods this week.

* I was starting to get my focus back at work, although the above-mentioned turn in fortunes did derail me somewhat. Hopefully I can get it together again this week and stay on track this time.

* Flat purchase still apparently going according to plan. Valuation was agreed on Thursday, so just waiting for mortgage to be approved I guess, then it's time for the lawyers to do their thing. The seller wants to complete by the end of the month, which seems a bit unrealistic to me, but if the lawyers can be persuaded to move that quickly then I have no real objection to the idea. I have been cheering myself up by trying to work out what I'll be doing about redecorating. Which probably says a lot about my state of mind actually.

While I'm here, a reminder: Helen and Kristen are about to have their first art exhibition, running for the next two weeks at The Foundry. You should all come :) Preferably to the opening night, which is on Wednesday.

Early warning for you all (those who didn't already know anyway):

[livejournal.com profile] libellum and [livejournal.com profile] cuteevilpixie are exhibiting some collaborative artworks at The Foundry from 21st August to 2nd September.

The Foundry is an entertaining mixture of pub, art gallery, and squat, located a few minutes walk from Old Street tube - it's well worth visiting. The launch party is in the evening on Wednesday 22nd August and will have a DJ providing some background music, as well as the opportunity to see the artists themselves wandering around in an over-excited state (it being their first exhibition).

A few examples of their work:
Polarity
Dryad's Dream
Personal Space

So yes, you're all invited to the launch party. Bring friends, buy beer to make the venue happy, buy paintings to make the starving artists ecstatic :)
