Okay, this one is ickier than the last one, be warned.

On Wednesday I took off all the dressings and replaced them, stopping only to take a pic for your viewing pleasure:

actually, that's kinda gross

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] florence90 for accompanying me on the walk to buy the dressings, being there while I took off the old ones, and last but not least, for taking the above pic.

The astute will notice that there are no temporary stitches on the bottom half of the incision. The really astute will put this together with the fact that I've already replaced the bottom dressing once due to its blood-soaked state, and realise that I pulled half my stitches off when I took the dressing off last time. Fortunately nothing appears to have split in the meantime, so I guess I got away with it.

I only realised after I saw the stitches on the top half, then I went and dug the old dressing out of a bin and found all the stitches from the bottom half stuck to the underside of it... so caked in blood that it's not surprising I didn't spot them first time around, and not particularly surprising that they were more attached to the dressing than they were to me.

While you're admiring the above pic, if you look about halfway down the unstitched part of the incision, about a centimetre below the main incision line ('below' as you look at the pic), you'll see a red patch about a centimetre square maybe. It would appear that they couldn't reach to unscrew one of my screws through the main incision, so they made a little hole there too. Either that or a careless surgeon stuck his thumbnail through my leg while he was holding the main cut open :) To be honest it looks more like the latter, but I'm guessing surgeons probably keep their fingernails well-trimmed.

Sore. I've spent the last 24 hours reading comics, which seems to have made me feel better about life - I'm just trying to work out what to do next now. I knew I should have bought all of Preacher last month :)

:( double ouchie. Might be able to manage another brief visit this week if that would help. Can bring a couple of books you might enjoy (would offer to bring dvd series to keep you entertained but I've packed them already).

It looks painful, but it does look like it's healing nicely and not infected! You could always buy some steri-stips and use them to hold any gaping holes which may appear closed. Hmm. Tasty. *hugs*

Okay. Marcus has a car. He's going to London tomorrow. He can pick you up and bring you to Cambridge. And Elise has Preacher. Apart from Proud Americans which I left on a train and haven't managed to replace yet despite several attempts. But they might have it in Borders and I could cycle over and pick you up a copy.

Right. It's a brilliant plan. All we need now is to persuade my housemates to go along with it and work out a way of getting you home again then you'd be ours FOREVAR.

I only just got in from my stupid pointless seminar that was completely pointless and which I really shouldnt' have gone to, except the topic looked like it might be useful for the thesis and I regretted missing the one on Tueday, but it was SHITE. I would write about it in LJ, except I just promised myself that I'd stay up all night working and then allow myself to go to Strawberry fair for an hour or two tomorrow as a reward, because the thought of not managing to ever go before leaving Cambridge makes me cry.

I don't recommend SF after all night awake, unless you really like sore eyes from the bright daylight.

You can always go back to Cambridge for Strawberry Fair; I've done it from here (Durham), so you can do it from London.

Bruising is going down, the wound seems to be staying together, I'd say it's looking good so far. Hope it continues to heal well.

Thank you both. I can't remember where I saw the picture now, I've had it on my computer for a long while, simply because it amused me. I made it into an icon when I saw this post as I thought it might give Denny a smile.

Cheers.

I made the mistake of telling him to stop scratching once and got the response of 'it's my itch and I'll scratch if I want to'. I didn't bother again. :)

I am not the one to scratch, so..
Na-ah!
*shakes head and hides hands*

I mean, as his friends, we really should keep him from doing that, could cause infections and all you know, it's simply a consideret friendly guester. *nods and agrees with self*

I just couldn't imagine him being handcuffed by a girl, more likely the other way around.

The scratching was with the dressings on so was not direct enough to cause infection.
